Pacific Fund Systems' 2020 charity donations
At the beginning of 2020, Pacific Fund Systems pledged a commitment to give back to the communities in which we live and work via charitable donations. As the unprecedented events of 2020 began to unfold, we quickly realised our CSR commitment was very timely with the communities in which our employees lived and worked being affected by extreme bushfires, floods and the continuing COVID-19 global pandemic. These events are unparalleled and are having both a significant negative social impact and have created even more fundraising pressures for charities – and we wanted to give a little something back. In 2020 we were very proud to support our colleague Ben Cotton, an Isle of Man based member of the PFS Business Analyst & Support team, when he entered the Isle of Man’s largest amateur boxing ‘Thriller In the Villa’ competition. Having thrown himself into months of hard work and dedicated training, Ben boxed his way to a brilliant victory in his match, and the event was a fantastic success – raising over £50,000 for charitable causes including Rebecca House, a local children’s hospice. This donation was followed by a number of others, including:
- Manx National Youth Band
- Isle of Man Children's Centre
- Isle of Play
- The MS Society
- IOM Solidarity Fund
- St Christopher's
- Lifeline Australia
- Dandelion Support
In the final weeks of 2020 we managed a couple of more donations with the PFS team visiting the IOM Foodbank with food, toiletries and pet food items that were purchased using staff and company donations. We were warmly greeted and shown around the facilities by volunteer Stuart who explained how the items are stored and sorted for collection. The IOM Foodbank rely totally on volunteers and donations from the public as it has not been allocated any government funding, and as well as supplying food and other essentials, the service also provides heated blankets to families that struggle to heat their homes. Pacific Fund Systems are proud to have contributed to this impressive operation that runs very smoothly, and which aids over 140 households on the Isle of Man. Our final donation of the year was gifted to the Manx Breast Cancer Support Group, with PFS staff selecting this worthwhile cause to receive £750 collected from staff Dress Down Day contributions. The Manx Breast Cancer Support Group has successfully fund-raised around £4million to build and equip a state of the art Breast/Screening Unit in the Isle of Man, and their dedicated team of volunteers now continue to fund-raise to ensure that these facilities are of the highest standard. PFS is proud to have been able to support such a number of worthwhile charities. It is very rewarding to be able to give a little something back to charities and organisations that have played a role or touched the lives of PFS employees, and we look forward to more of the same in 2021.
